Laie Point

Laie Point or Laniloa is located by the Polynesian Cultural Center and is right across Foodland Laie, in a quiet residential area at the end of Naupaka Street. This area used to be pretty much off the radar, known mostly to locals and fishermen. Now it seems to be hopping and popping with tourists and locals alike.

Kukuihoolua Island

Kukuihoolua Island

This is one of the five islands located off the spit of island jutting into the ocean, called Kukuihoolua. This is actually a sea arch and has a very pronounced hole in the center, which was the result of the 1946 tsunami that punched a hole in the arch.

Cove

Cove

Waves rushing into the cove, at the end, you can see huge chunks of rock that have broken off from the side and are jumbled in a pile at the bottom.

Looking out from the cove, you can see the smaller island of Mokualai and the fishermen parked. As you can probably tell from the photos, the rocks are very sharp and jagged, do not walk barefoot on the rocks unless you have bionic soles!

Mokualai Island

Mokualai Island

Hawaiian legend has it that a great warrior by the name of Kana, defeated a giant Mo’o or lizard that was guarding this place and cut it into five pieces and flung them into the ocean where they still sit today.

This is a spot where swimmers test their mettle by jumping off the cliffs into the water below.

Koolau mountains

The view towards the Koolau Mountain Range. There were some rain squalls heading into the mountains. This place is just a great spot to sit and take a breather or bring some fishing rods and pass the time away watching the ocean rolling in and out.
